Bridal Sets: How They Work and Whether One Is Right for You
A bridal set is an engagement ring and one or two wedding bands designed together and sold as one. It solves the most common wedding band problem, finding a band that sits well beside the engagement ring, before it starts. Here is how bridal sets work and when one is the right choice.
What is in a bridal set
Our bridal sets come in two forms:
- Two pieces: an engagement ring and one matching band.
- Three pieces: an engagement ring with a band on each side, which stack into one wide ring.
Each product page lists every piece in the set and the stones in each one, so you know exactly what you are getting.
Why choose a set
- A guaranteed fit. The band is shaped for the engagement ring. Some sets use an open or curved band that wraps around the center stone, which a separate straight band could not do.
- A matched look. Metal color, stone style and proportions are chosen to go together.
- One decision. You choose the ring and the band at the same time, in one size.
When separate rings make more sense
A set is not for everyone. Some couples prefer to choose the wedding band together closer to the wedding, or want a band in a different style from the engagement ring. Others plan to build a stack over the years, adding a band for an anniversary. In those cases, start with an engagement ring and pick from our wedding and stacking bands later. Our wedding band guide shows how to match them.
Sizing a set
You choose one size and every ring in the set comes in that size, from US 5 to 9. Since two or three rings will sit on the same finger, they take up more room than a single ring, and a stack of rings can feel a little snugger than one band alone. If you are between sizes, choose the larger one. Our ring size guide shows how to measure at home, and our guide to finding a ring size without asking helps if the proposal is a surprise.
How to wear it
Before the wedding, many people wear only the engagement ring and keep the band aside for the ceremony. After the wedding, the band traditionally goes on first, closest to the hand, with the engagement ring above it. In a three piece set, the engagement ring sits between the two bands.
Returns and care
A bridal set can be returned within 60 days of delivery, as long as every piece is unworn and comes back with its original packaging and certificate card. See our return policy. Rings worn together rub against each other, so take them off for water and workouts and store them apart. Our guide to gold plated sterling silver covers the rest.
